You can go buy an ice cream cone at McDonalds for $1 or you can go to an Ice Cream Specialty shop and pay $2.50. Why do you go to the specialty shop? Because you want something more than basic.
You can file a claim through the clearinghouse for under $2. Is that all you ever want done with your claims? What if your claim (is):
Returned by the insurance Payer
Doesn't contain any insurance information
Recouped in error by Medicare
What will happen to your claim then? Will anyone contact you and advise you the documentation is incomplete?
Will anyone call the insurance company to verify the reason the claim was returned or denied - fixing the problem and resubmitting with the additional information?
If an insurance company tells you that you owe them $1,000 does anyone research the facts to verify accuracy and appeal where appropriate?
